Sprint 21: Surprise! We have a cabinet!

Our team’s dynamic is on the up and up. We are planning out the senior show. And we are ahead of schedule with our arcade cabinet construction!

We were able to build the cabinet earlier this week due to receiving additional funding from our division’s dean. Thanks to our UX Designer and Cabinet Lead extraordinar Natalie Orlando for writing up those proposals!

Also this week I got to start storyboarding our presentation and team/game reel for the Champlain College Senior Show. We are hoping for the reel to be multipurpose so that we can use it not only for the Show but also as the video that plays in the arcade cabinet when it detects inactivity.

My Illustrator skills still need some work, but this gets the job done for now.

I also revamped our week by week schedule! We now have different categories for the different parts of the project we are working on. It was getting unclear which aspects we were working on each week. Through this process we also updated our plan for the next couple of weeks. The main take away is that we are heavily focusing on getting our characters and sound in before spring break. We have push most of the environment work off until after spring break and GDC as we feel the environment is in a good place right now and what is more important is getting our characters ready for our minimum viable product.

The last thing I’ll mention is our continued efforts to increase/maintain morale and healthy working relationships. This week we did morale activities both in class and in our thursday meeting. We also played tag together after Wednesday’s class. Additionally, Joey one of our animators was our dungeon master for two Call of Cthulhu sessions. We split the team in two because it was a horror game and would be more immersive with two smaller groups rather than 1 large one. This worked out well though because in one of our morale activities we asked each other who we each think we are least close too on the team and created groups from there. There were snacks and laughter and everyone had a blast! We definitely want to do an activity like this again after spring break.
