Strategic Planning Internship
About
During the summer of 2017 I was hired as a strategic planning and quality improvement intern for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT). During that summer I research the healthcare app market and created a strategic assessment for BCBSVT. I participated in the project management, quality, and strategy departments of BCBSVT. I knew nothing of healthcare going in and that is exactly why they hired me, so that I would bring my expertise in digital media development and challenge their conventions. I gained so much knowledge of health plan operations and I learned corporate negotiation skills. During my time I had to communicate with doctors, Chief X Officers, VPs, Directors, and gather each of their interests and plans. Some of them only wanted the big picture while others wanted all the details. Even though the health insurance industry is far outside my career interests– I still learned many valuable skills to get people to talk to each other and how to carry myself in a corporate environment.
What They Gained from Me:

210+ slides power point detailing my research

2 Example Toolkits:

Connections with possible partners for app development
Final Presentation To CEO Don Geogre
While I gave many presentations during my time at BCBSVT, my favorite was the one I gave on the last day of my internship to BCBSVT’s leadership team. Sadly, I can’t share all the documentation I created and their is no recording of this presentation, but I can share these slides:
