Sprint 10: Last of the Mechanics
First week of vertical slice down. We finished up the last of our fighting game mechanics such as: parries, armored moves, and unblockables. We added a second megadrive attack. Updated our font and environment. And added some placeholder music in the background. Check out the footage below:
Our QA testers have been really enjoying Lucha Megadrive lately and seem to be picking up on the controls and feedback more too:
Sadly though, testers don't seem to be using our rope mechanics as of late:
We are looking to add button prompts and a controls menu to help teach players / testers how to use the ropes and why. Additionally, we have an idea for battle entrances that can help elude the use of the ropes more.
Now that we have the last of the fighting game mechanics down. We can start polishing up the overall feel and look of our game for our vertical slice prototype. Looking forward, we only have two weeks left before the studio wide presentations and possible cuts. Here are the stories we planed out:
Our plan is pretty different from how it was last week- we are keeping agile. We had to make some cuts and reprioritize our work based on what would be most useful for the game and our players. Spirits were a bit low because of these cuts, but after our planning meeting we had a lot of good design discussion that got the team excited again.
We are still practicing for our big presentation on Nov. 20th. Our slide deck is in the works. Our skit is scripted out. Lastly, I have started to put together a trailer for Lucha Megadrive. Check out this intro/teaser I made akin to Marvel’s intro:
