Sprint 6: First Gameplay Footage
Here is gameplay footage of our latest build! I figured it is probably time to show this prototype in action since our plan for this next week is to start replacing the prototype art with assets more representative of Lucha!
Hype meter functionality is now in- although it doesn’t effect anything yet. Our programmer also created a sound manager which our designer can use to select different sounds for different moves. In the footage above we have placeholder sounds, but we are also working with a sound artist to have custom sounds. The process for getting sounds into the game is as easy as importing the file into unity through the sound manager.
This past week we didn’t have class so we didn’t need to present our work on Monday; however, our team still met up for a work session. In this work session we spent over an hour playing the latest build of our game- the same that you see above. After we all spent time playing the game, we discussed what we liked about it and brought in our most recent QA feedback to see where we might go next:
We concluded that maybe in addition to taking our game to Champlain College’s official QA, we should also take the game to the weekly fighting game tournament held at the college every Monday night. Now that the game is in a semi-presentable state, we need feedback from players closer to our target audience. We are still in the process of nailing down what type of fighting game player likes our game- we think bringing our prototypes to these weekly tournaments will help with that. We still want to bring is to Champlain College’s QA to gain understanding of how non fighting game players approach our game. But to truly test some of the intricacies of our gameplay we need dedicated fighting game players to critique us.
If all goes right, this coming Monday we will be challenging the deep dive stage in our class. We are challenging with the idea of trying to get more feedback. Wether we pass the stage or not, we want to know where we stand in terms of the class and where we can improve.
